Space cleaning in Feng Shui

For thousands of years sacred ceremonies have been performed to instil beneficial energy into living spaces. Forgotten ceremonies that once brought vitality to generations are now being used to bring peace in today’s homes and businesses with remarkable results.

“The art and ceremony of space clearing has been practiced around the world since the beginning of time.  It is a ceremony that can instantly uplift the energy of a space, (whether it be your home or workplace) clearing away negativity in exchange for a happy, light, peaceful feel.

It is a simple way of balancing the energies in a home or business to make it a place you want to be, where you may feel more at peace, happier and at home.”

Homes which have felt sluggish or depressing become vibrant and uplifting. Stores and Offices often report an increase in sales and morale. An area which is cleansed feels at once lighter and brighter and even people who are not sensitive to energy – remark how great they feel.

Space Clearing can provide keys to inviting nature into our homes. It can reveal a spiritual presence, which has been lying dormant in surroundings, can disperse of any negative energy and call love spirits into homes and businesses. A home that has been purified not only feels better but also can help health to improve, relationships to deepen, and prosperity to expand.

When is space clearing needed?

Before construction of a new property – In ancient times it was considered a sacrilege to begin the construction of a building before clearing and consecrating the land. Simply taking the time to connect and communicate with the earth, clearing the land of residual energy and offering blessings can make an enormous difference in the fortunes of all the occupants.

Before moving into a property – In many cultures it was unthinkable to move into a home before it had been space cleared and blessed. Properties, which have not been freed of energies, sometimes continue to foster patterns of behaviour related to the previous occupants.

After any misfortunes – Illness, divorce and death, it is absolutely essential that you space clear your home. Doing this facilitates a timely release of pain, suffering, sorrow and discomfort, so that you can begin anew. It will literally help to clear the air of stagnant unhealthy, negative and unhappy energy.

When do you need a lift ? – Have you been sluggish ? If so this would be an excellent time to perform a Space Clearing ceremony. Although a complete clearing involves an entire home or office, even the simple act of lighting a candle or ringing a bell will have a positive effect on how you feel if it is done with the intent of transforming the energy in your environment. For a more positive effect simply walk around each major room in the morning hours ringing a bell, lighting incense, or burning sage – this will set a template for the rest of the day.

Before celebrations – If you are expecting a visitor, bringing a new-born home or newly weds, Space Clearing sets a template of clarity and light and creates a perfect environment for new beginnings.

Space Clearing can be done at anytime.

There are particular movements when it is especially important to clear and bless the environment. These movements will depend on the type of energy which has accumulated. If someone has fallen ill or died, the energy of a home often becomes sluggish and heavy (in Feng Shui this is known as too much Yin).

“Energetically, everything that ever happens in a building goes out in ripples like the effect of a stone being dropped in a pond. It is recorded in the walls, floor, ceiling, furniture, and other objects in the place. It gets astrally imprinted into the very fabric of the structure. Repetitive actions and behaviours are deeply imprinted, and events accompanied by strong emotions or trauma are the most strongly imprinted of all. If you’ve ever had the experience of walking into a room after there has just been an argument, you know that you can literally feel it hanging in the air. People sometimes say, ‘You could have cut the air with a knife!’, meaning that the atmosphere was so dense it was as if the argument were physically tangible.”

To dispel the listless energy and restore balance in the area, clearing techniques which are vibrant and quick moving are required (these are Yang). Drums and gongs are excellent tools to use in such a case. But if the energy of your space feels agitated then the use of Yin techniques and tools such as a softly chanted mantra or a crystal singing bowl can smooth and soothe the energy to create tranquillity and calm.
